8 Must-Haves for Thailand Island Hopping
We snorkeled for hours in South Thailand’s azure waters. We’re swimming and watching nature. The coral reefs and fish schools were stunning. Thailand has the best beach vacation heat, water, and hospitality.
Here are my top eight Thailand island hopping essentials.
Longtail boats are recommended. We prefer private bookings, so we weren’t rushed. We also had time to return to shore afterward. Remember to always negotiate a good price with your skipper.
Snorkeling gear:
Thailand’s islands are famous for their crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs, which can be explored by snorkeling. So, it is important to carry your own snorkeling gear for an optimal underwater experience. We brought our own goggles and snorkel, with our own fins. So, we could glide through the reefs comfortably and not stress with faulty or used equipment.
A long sleeve rash vest and even leggings to protect you from sunburn. It’s not pretty and not sexy, one would rather glide through in your bikini, but the sun will burn you while you are floating on the ocean. Waterproof sunblock can only go for so long. I made sure to protect my skin from sunburn at every cost.
Mosquito repellent:
Even when you are travelling on a longtail boat between island the mosquitoes are buzzing and biting. I make sure I just spray to keep those blood suckers away. Thailand can be prone to mosquito-borne diseases like dengue fever, so carrying a mosquito repellent is important to stay protected from these diseases.
Lightweight clothes:
The weather in Thailand can be hot and humid, so it is best to pack light and breathable clothes that will keep you cool and comfortable.

Swimming attire:
As you will be spending most of your time island hopping, it’s important to pack appropriate swimming attire to enjoy swimming and other water activities.
Camera:
Using a watertight bag, bring you camera to take photos of the incredible spaces and beautiful places you will find along the way. If you are into social media, carry your smartphone with you, make sure to pack a power bank to keep it charged all-day long.
Water bottle:
Staying hydrated while island hopping in Thailand is essential, so carrying a water bottle is important to keep you hydrated throughout the day. Try not to use plastic, bring your own water bottle! Thailand island hopping is so much fun!

To decrease the plastic, carry your own water bottle, filled with water. Also pop into one of the markets and grab a watermelon, bananas, and many of the delicious fruits to keep you going for the day. We made sure that we picked up litter wherever we went. We also were sure to carry all our rubbish and recycled them after a day in nature.
The warm water, the sun kissed feeling of swimming with schools of brightly coloured fish is quite magical. Its relaxing and rejuvenating.
I love Thailand island hopping and found all the islands we visited; had their own charm.
