Discover the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa: A Cape Town Gem for Creative Souls

Nestled in the heart of Cape Town’s vibrant V&A Waterfront, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) stands as a beacon of artistic innovation and cultural celebration. This architectural marvel, once a historic grain silo, has been transformed into the largest museum of contemporary African art on the continent.

Offering an immersive experience that resonates with both art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

A Historic Transformation: From Grain Silo to Art Sanctuary

Built in 1924, the original grain silo was a towering industrial structure, emblematic of Cape Town’s economic evolution. After its decommissioning in the 1990s, visionary architect Thomas Heatherwick undertook the ambitious project of repurposing the silo into a contemporary art museum. By carving out a central atrium inspired by the shape of a corn kernel, Heatherwick preserved the building’s historical essence while creating a cathedral-like space that now houses over 100 galleries.

I absolutely love spending hours walking through the different floors and seeing all the amazing artists.
