Walking and shopping through Kalk Bay

Kalk Bay is a darling little town found on the coastal road between Fish Hoek and Muizenberg. It’s the perfect hub to shop, eat and meet friends for a glass of wine. With top class food, shopping and charming gems to explore. This bohemian treat is a must visit, when travelling to Cape Town.

Shopping on foot through Kalk Bay:

Oh So Boho

Undoubtedly, my best shop on the Kalk Bay Strip! They have imported linen, quilts, cushions, beautiful clothing, bags, and jewellery.  The style is very boho! Albeit, pricey the quality is exquisite, and you will keep your garment for many years.  Or your quilt!

Kalk Bay Books:

My favourite bookshop! Kalk Bay Books is a haven for book enthusiasts. This independent bookstore specializes in a carefully curated selection of literature, with a focus on South African authors. I love the cozy ambiance and time to explore the shelves for literary gems.

Dalebrook Deli:

This gorgeous bakery, restaurant, and coffee shop, has fresh croissants, decadent cakes, and yummy pastries.  You can either sit down and have something to drink, eat, or shop for a special occasion.  Opposite this Deli, is Dalebrook Tidal pool, a delightful tidal pool that is very popular to swim in. Yes, the water is cold, but it’s refreshing!  Try it, it’s a great swimming experience.

Kalk Bay Modern:

Modern art enthusiasts will appreciate a visit to Kalk Bay Modern. This contemporary art gallery showcases works from both established and emerging South African artists. Explore the dynamic exhibits that reflect the evolving artistic landscape of Kalk Bay.

The Kalk Bay Trading Post:

is a delightful refuge for antique enthusiasts, housing a treasure trove of old collectibles such as jewellery, pottery, furniture, and more. Additionally, as you peruse their eclectic collection, you may find a one-of-a-kind item that will transport you to another time and place. Equally important, they have great movie posters of old movies that you can frame if you are a movie buff. So much to see here.

Moon Clothing

Enter a realm of colourful and fashionable patterns, jewelry, and other trinkets. Coupled with this, all of the meticulously selected collections draw inspiration from Nicky, the owner. Her sense of style and her passion for vibrant colours and patterns. A commitment to exceptional customer service. Focusing, on providing individualized attention supports her mission to help clients feel confident, beautiful, and empowered. Very well priced and all her stuff is high quality! Happy Shopping!

Gypsy Trading Shop:

Located in the very center of Kalk Bay, Gypsy has a way of capturing the spirit of the place. Indeed, go in and relax on our bench while you eat your ice cream, or take a break to let Fido drink from the bowl. Gypsy is conveniently located near the world-renowned Kalk Bay Railway Station, making it the perfect spot for a stop-and-shop on one of the wonderful train journeys that travel down the breathtaking coastline.

Quagga at Kalk Bay:

There is still an air of mystery and rarity in the adjacent Quagga at Kalk Bay. Bookcases overflowing with volumes bound in leather, nautical maps from the 17th century, seashells, and even the occasional baboon or whalebone. Without a doubt, this shop is interesting, and you are fascinated by all the crazy, weird, and strange quirky things to see. They have a massive number of artifacts, literature, maps, and books. Certainly, great for the curious mind.

Kalk Bay Nursery:

You cannot miss this darling nursery, it’s a real treat if you love plants, flowers, and very special creative pots!  They sell all sorts of beautiful greens, flowers, and fynbos.  They have handmade hanging macramé flowerpots, and crochet hanging baskets filled with magnificent flowers. I also love how they include lovely accessories for your garden and even have the old Buddha for sale. I bought one of my best Buddha’s there.

Without question, Kalk Bay needs half a day, you need comfortable shoes, a sun hat, an empty tummy, and a curious mind. Walk up the alleyways, where you will find gems and interesting shops.  Make sure you have a carry bag, as you will fill it up with delicious goods, clothing, and organic foods.

Lastly, I highly recommend, an ice cream at Ice Cafe after your walk through this bohemian charming town.

It’s a very awesome place. How about next time you are in town, we walk from the top to the bottom, eat, drink a beer and shop together! I would love that!
