Mother’s Day is a celebration honouring mothers.  And motherhood, as well as the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated in various forms around the world.  Typically, on different dates depending on the country. In many countries, including the US, Canada, Australia, and South Africa, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May.

What is Mother’s Day?

Mother’s Day is a day for children and others to express their appreciation and gratitude towards their mothers. Or maternal figures, such as grandmothers, stepmothers, and mothers-in-law. It is commonly marked by giving gifts, cards, flowers, and spending quality time with mothers.  Usually around a table, eating a lovely wholesome meal or a day out.

Where does it come from?

Did you know, the origins of Mother’s Day can be traced back to ancient civilizations?  Isn’t that wonderful! But the modern-day version of Mother’s Day was established in the early 20th century. Mother’s are incredibly special and It was officially recognized as a holiday in the United States. In 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. Since then, it has become a widely celebrated holiday across the globe. Coupled with that, we honour the love and sacrifices of mothers everywhere.

Take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful gardens, have a picnic, and enjoy the stunning views of Table Mountain. Uniquely, this is a green paradise with such nature and happiness.

Treat your mom to a day of shopping, dining, and entertainment at one of Cape Town’s most popular tourist destinations. Important to note, this is only for a mum that loves to shop!

Cape Point Vineyards:

Indulge in a wine tasting experience with panoramic views of the vineyards and the Atlantic Ocean. And drink wine, is there any mum that doesn’t love a good glass of wine!

Constantia Wine Route:

Explore the historic vineyards of Constantia and enjoy wine tastings in this picturesque wine-growing region. Eat cake and drink wine.
