I love the whole idea of an afternoon of tea! We should all celebrate high tea, with gusto, great effort and lots of champers!

Here are my Top 5 High Tea Spots in Cape Town

Bringing out the old teapot, while warming it with hot water before drawing the tea. Like making sure my teacups match. The milk jar is filled with fresh milk.  Fun fact, there is an art to tea pouring and of course drinking tea. Dressing up for high tea, eating bite size cucumber sandwiches and small dainty pastries.

The Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel

Is the city’s most illustrious Afternoon Tea option, and simply legendary. The selection of teas and pastries are offered in the hotel’s refined lounge. It’s huge and luxuriant. The atmosphere is festive and formal. As a guest you are not rushed and rather allowed to take your time. In the elegant surroundings and impeccable service. I adore the Mount Nelson because it is steeped in history and has hosted many notable guests for tea.

Casa Labia 

Drive to Muizenberg to relax in the elegant Venetian-style setting of Casa Labia. This is tea with a seaside twist, with lovely coastal views and stunning interiors. Get limitless cups of fine tea from our carefully curated collection.
Salmon and cucumber roulade with lemon cream cheese and gremolata; chicken, basil, and garlic aioli sandwiches folded in a crushed nut crumble are just a few of the savoury options available during their High Tea. It is a refreshing and elegant way to start any event or occasion. Indeed, one of the finest spots to spend a relaxing afternoon. The garden is lovely, and as you stroll around it, you might catch sight of some of the resident squirrels, ducks, and birds.

The Yard 

Found at The Silo, offers a lovely tea experience with an equally exciting menu. The distinctive menu takes its lead from the opulence of traditional Indian high teas and includes delightful items inspired by the heritage of co-owner, GP Singh, who hails from Punjab, India. The savoury course offers an elegant twist on popular Indian foods. Namely, items like their Chicken Kathi Wrap, Aloo Tikki Slider, Crumbed Prawns, Lamb Seek Kabab, Veg Samosa. Undoubtedly, delicious!

For instance, the sweet delicacies, are the likes of Strawberry Macaroons, Lemon Tart, Carrot Cake, Salted Caramel Eclairs and Baked Ricotta Hazelnut. They even have a vegan high tea menu featuring Vegan Peach Pie, Zucchini Sliders, Harakabab and more. This high tea is something special, I highly recommend after this amazing high tea, make your way to the Zeitz Mocca Museum, it’s something quite special.  

The Table Bay Hotel’s Lounge

Famous for its Afternoon tea. Enduring finishes, and spectacular grand window overlooking the V&A Waterfront. Firstly, since the construction of The Table Bay hotel in 1997, It has become one of the most popular spots for afternoon tea in Cape Town, drawing in visitors from all over the world.

Table Bay’s High Tea menu, which features four courses, is a gastronomic extravaganza.

Moreover, both savoury and sweet pleasures. Making its ingredients burst with flavour thanks to the changing of the seasons. Lastly, The Lounge is more than just a place to have an afternoon tea in Cape Town. Thus, here you can sip on a cup of hot coffee in front of their beautiful fireplace this winter. Finally, you may burn off those extra calories by strolling around the Waterfront’s many shops.

In conclusion, sometimes at home, I put on my own high tea. Just for me.  I take a scone, add a dollop of cream and strawberry jam. In the end, I take out my best China.   Even in my pajama’s.
