Muscles with homemade bread Seafood Cape Town

Seafood is grub loved by most people. I personally do love a good fish, homemade tartar sauce with salty chips laden with vinegar! Or peri peri king prawns eaten with your hands. And finally, a bowl of muscles served with white wine sauce and homemade bread!

Cape Town, South Africa, is known for its diverse culinary scene, and when it comes to seafood, you’re in for a treat.  Firstly, I love a fine dining restaurant, but there is a part of me that loves to support the local restaurants in around Cape Town.

Here are my top 5 Authentic seafood experiences in Cape Town:

The Black Marlin – Simonstown : Cape Town

Simon’s Town is known for its naval history. But also, for its gorgeous coastal roads that show off the peninsula!  On this road, you will find The Black Marlin. Ultimately, this eatery offers a diverse seafood menu with a focus on local ingredients. The nautical-themed décor complements the seaside location. The sea view is drop-dead!  I would highly recommend you go for lunch.  Additionally, they have an incredible seafood menu, from fish and chips to lobster! Their seafood platters are full of king prawns, calamari, muscles, and fresh fish. Dripping in butter and garlic yumminess.

The setting is beautiful.  It’s a lovely place to celebrate a birthday or friends getting together!

Kalky’s – Kalk Bay : Cape Town

Firstly, this very popular seafood restaurant located at Kalk Bay Harbour in Cape Town. Kalky’s is renowned for its delicious and fresh seafood offerings, particularly fish and chips. If you are looking for some lekker grub. This restaurant is a laid-back with a casual atmosphere. Providing, a quintessential seaside experience. After all, it is right on the Harbour. Here, you can watch all the local boats come in and out. Seals playing in the water, lots of fisherman fishing off the harbour wall. It’s a busy harbour, but most of the fisherman have been working from Kalk Bay Harbour for decades. To point out, if you are looking for fine dining, this is not the place for you.

Kalky’s is known for its friendly service and various seafood dishes, including fried fish, calamari, prawns, and more.

Chapmans Peak Hotel: Hout Bay : Cape Town

Without a delay, make time to visit this fine eatery! Famous for its delicious fried calamari drizzled with garlic and lemon butter, this iconic hotel’s restaurant is a favourite among locals and visitors. Aside from the famous calamari, there are loads of other fish and seafood dishes to choose from. It is perfect for a family day out, with seating outside on the terrace. Or by the fire inside in winter. After your meal, take a stroll along the beach, and watch the surfers, kiters and sea creatures at play. Loved by the locals and by the Joburgers!  This is a place you cannot miss!

My personal hack, a Friday late lunch turns into a boozy joll!  Just don’t drive home drunk!  Uber!

The Strandloper : West Coast: Western Cape

Without question, this seafood restaurant is unique and a must visit! Located on the West Coast of Cape Town. Langebaan, a coastal town known for its natural beauty, beautiful turquoise waters, kite surfing and holidays! The restaurant is known for its unique and rustic setting right on the beach, so do not wear high heels, your feet are on the sand.  Important to note, the menu is set, and you get the fresh food as its cooked.  Uniquely, it’s a buffet style lunch, where you go up and feast on crayfish, fish, muscles, and a range of shellfish.  All on a braai (barbeque). Not to mention, they serve the best home baked bread and homemade jams.  Go hungry! As you will spend hours eating. It’s not a fancy tables and chair experience, it’s a fish braai with your friends or family!

Including, a gorgeous beach, so if you get too hot, you can take a dip in the sea!

It’s important to note, everyone is different. What I might love, might not be what you love.  I love the fine dining experience but also love getting my hands dirty in sublime food that fills my tummy.  Hence, I like to try and test along the way.

Finally, remember that the availability of specific dishes and the popularity of restaurants can change.  Therefore, it’s always a good idea to check recent reviews and recommendations for the latest information. To clarify, don’t always settle for the tourist trap, get out there and enjoy your seafood exploration in Cape Town!
