Alongside, with its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture, the mother city beckons both locals and tourists alike. Amidst the myriad of culinary delights that the Mother City has to offer, one dish stands out as a true coastal classic.  For one thing, the beloved fish and chips with sea views.

Equally important, if you come on holiday and you are by the sea, what do you crave the most?  A lekker (delicious) plate of good fresh fish and slap chips!  The fact is, I live close to the sea and know all the very best places to go for this.

Snoekies in Hout Bay

If you are looking for something very home-grown, relaxed and on the oceanfront. Snoekies in Hout Bay is definitely a must-visit. This unpretentious very local has been serving locals for decades.  Mostly, earning a reputation for its no-frills approach and emphasis on quality. The star of the show here is the snoek, a delicious local fish that’s often the catch of the day. If you like to get stuck in with the locals, this is a outstanding choice!

Kalky’s Fish and Chips

Kalk Bay is a special harbour village, best for its shopping along the bohemian alley ways and streets.  But has the historic Kalky’s Fish and Chips at the harbour.  Indeed, a quaint eatery that captures the essence of a traditional fisherman’s cottage. However, people come from far and wide to visit, so it’s always full!  Celebrated, for its generous portions of golden-brown fish and crispy chips. No doubt, this no-fuss yet immensely satisfying local spot, is a winner in my books!  The casual, friendly atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for families and friends.

The Salty Sea Dog

Found in Simonstown, The Salty Sea Dog is the place to be.  Coupled with, this is my mother’s favourite joint, for a good piece of hake and fresh salad.  Uniquely, this hidden gem prioritizes sustainably sourced seafood, ensuring that every bite is not only gob smacking delicious, Its, also ethically sourced. While, the batter is light and crispy, complementing the fresh catch of the day. Without question, a winner in my books.

Harbour House

If you are looking for something more fine dining, more fancy and refined. Harbour House is a restaurant in Kalk Bay overlooking the ocean.  Here you are spoilt for many seafood options.  White table clothed tables, exquisite seafood and perfectly paired wines is what you will get.  Its not cheap like the other spots, it’s a special occasion type of restaurant.
