Victoria Falls is unique among waterfalls. As it is the only one in the world. To be longer than a kilometer and higher than a hundred metres.

Furthermore, it also widely recognized as the world’s highest drop.

According to Birdlife South Africa, there are over 470 different species of birds to be seen in the Victoria Falls region.

Incidentally, this magnificent waterfall is between the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

It was described by the Kololo tribe living in the area in the 1800s as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ – ‘The Smoke that Thunders’. In the present day, Victoria Falls is recognized as the largest curtain of falling water on Earth. Indeed, making a thunderous noise as the waterfalls.

During the peak of the rainy season, more than 500,000,000 cubic metres of water per minute plummet over the edge. Over a width of nearly 2 km, into a gorge over 100 metres below. Creating columns of spray that can be seen from miles away.

On the other hand, as it cascades over the wide basalt cliff. The Zambezi is transformed from a peaceful river. Into a ferocious torrent crashing through a series of dramatic gorges. An identically tall basalt cliff, topped by a misty rainforest, rises in the opposite direction, facing the Falls.

For those who are willing to get wet. You can use a path that runs along the forest’s edge. Offering a series of breathtaking vantage points of the Falls.

The Boiling Pot is a bend in the river just before it enters the Batoka Gorge. Across the Knife-edge Bridge, visitors can get a great look at the Eastern Cataract and the Main Falls.

Livingstone Island, the Falls Bridge, Devil’s Pool, and the Lookout Tree are other places with great views of the Main Falls.

There are so many activities to explore for the adventurous, the thrill seeker and the photographer like me. Check out my favourite photographs of Victoria Falls.

I must say that when I saw Victoria Falls from the Zambian side, I did shed a tear as it was secretly a bucket list tick for me.
