Shot in the Waters of Cape Town

The stunning underwater scenes in the film are shot around Cape Town, specifically in False Bay. The kelp forests you see on screen are teeming with life. If you’re into snorkeling in Cape Town, the coastline offers amazing opportunities to explore these rich waters. You’ll encounter a variety of fish, kelp forests, and if you’re lucky, maybe even an octopus.

Why We Must Protect Our Oceans

The documentary also highlights the urgent need for ocean conservation. Our oceans face many threats, including pollution, overfishing, and climate change. One of the biggest contributors to ocean pollution is plastic.

The Urgency to Reduce Plastic Use

It’s crucial to stop using single-use plastics like straws, bags, and bottles. Plastic pollution is harmful to marine life. Sea creatures can mistake it for food or get trapped, leading to injury or death. We all need to do our part by recycling and choosing eco-friendly alternatives. Small changes, like carrying reusable bags and refusing plastic straws, can make a huge difference.

Snorkeling Adventures in Cape Town

Besides being a prime filming location for My Octopus Teacher, Cape Town offers fantastic snorkeling spots. The crystal-clear waters of places like Simon’s Town and Boulders Beach are perfect for exploring marine life up close. You can see everything from playful seals to colorful fish.

Finally, My Octopus Teacher is more than just a documentary. It’s a reminder of how beautiful and intelligent our ocean creatures are and how important it is to protect them. This beautiful documentary touched my heart and made me realise how amazing these ocean creatures are.

The most beautiful Octopus

By reducing plastic use, embracing recycling, and spreading awareness, we can help preserve the oceans for future generations. And while you’re in Cape Town, don’t miss out on the incredible snorkeling opportunities the coastal waters have to offer!

What an interesting name for a documentary. I have learned alot about octopus 🐙 reading your blog. I enjoy watching the National Geographic channel. I know they are incredibly smart creatures, but I can not remember learning about their 1 to 2 year life span of the octupus and that they carry 3 hearts. These are all amazing facts. Thanks for sharing, Lauren.
