Brunch is anything passed 10am, which is usually on weekend, the time I get out of bed, after my morning coffee. Its literally my only pleasure, sleep. Switch off. Turn off. Loadshedding of the brain. What a pleasure! They say Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day, but so if brunch. Brunch is breakfast eaten from 10am to at least 1pm.  Without a doubt the first meal of the day fuels you.  Kickstarts your metabolism and sets the tone for a productive day ahead.

I would say I am a brunch expert.  I’ve had the pleasure of exploring a wide range of brunches.

Join me on this lip-smacking journey as I list my top 5 brunch that are not only delicious but also packed with nutrients to fuel your day!

CLASSIC AVO & TOAST

Without a doubt, this is my number one!  Bringing together simplicity, taste, and health, avocado toast is a timeless Brunch favourite! I generally love wholewheat or rye bread toasted!  With homemade butter.  Next, you spread a generous amount of ripe avocado, adding a hint of sea salt and black pepper. Get creative by piling on extra toppings like sunflower seeds, feta cheese, or a poached egg to elevate this breakfast brunch.  Don’t even be afraid of crispy bacon! This is heaven!

Pajamas and Jam serves the best smashed Avo on toast.

VEGGIE LOADED OMELETTE

When it comes to breakfast, a beautifully folded veggie-loaded omelette never disappoints. Whisk together eggs, a splash of milk, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Add a medley of vegetables such as bell peppers, spinach, mushrooms, and onions. Top it off with a sprinkle of cheese and cook until fluffy. This protein-packed and veggie-loaded delight is a fantastic way to kick-start your day.

My best veggie omelette is served at Whole Earth Cafe in Scarborough!

PANCAKES

The Swan Café is the best place to indulge without guilt the best pancakes ever!  Whether you want your pancake with a dollop of Greek yogurt, fresh fruits, and a drizzle of natural syrup or honey. They know what they are doing!  They are French and make the most delicious pancakes.  Don’t feel guilty, it’s a pleasure to visit once a year.

SCONES

As a matter of fact, I can eat scones at any time of the day. In my opinion, this is the best scrumptious treat ever!  They must be big, freshly baked and include a dollop of cream, homemade jam and fresh farm butter! With a pot of tea.  Scones need to be eaten slowly in a lovely space outside. What better place but my personal favourite The Scone Shack.  This unpretentious shack makes the best wood fired scones, potjie jam and pots of bottomless tea.  You might even get to given Bacon their male pig a good scratch on his belly.

EGGS BENEDICT

Eggs Benedict is a classic brunch dish that consists of a poached egg, placed on top of a toasted English muffin, and then topped with bacon or ham. In essence, this dish is traditionally served with a creamy Hollandaise sauce poured over the eggs and muffin. The rich and buttery Hollandaise sauce adds a velvety texture and tangy flavour to the dish. Surprisingly, my best eggs benedict has been at Boschendal.
