A quick and short drive from Eastgate Airport.  This exquisite camp is part of the Thornybush collection. A collection of five-star game lodges situated on a private concession near the Kruger National Park.  Specifically, offering an immersive and authentic safari experience. I love the beauty and drama of the South African bushveld. And it is here you can find it.

What is the service like?

Upon arrival I was greeted by Kersti, the duty manager on shift. A friendly and warm welcome, with a fresh glass of Watermelon juice.  She made me feel at home.  I was taken around and shown the glorious guest areas and showed where lunch and dinner are served. Kersti also assisted me in a crisis, as I had left my iPhone charger at the previous lodge. Her exact words, were, I will make a plan! Without delay, I heard a knock on my door! She had managed to find one and allowed me to use it that night.  I was relieved and so thankful.  Come on, that is top service!

What is the game viewing like?

Indeed, Saseka (which means beautiful in Shangaan) provides an exclusive haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Adventurers, and seekers of tranquility. Traversing over 14,000 hectares of diverse terrain, savannah grasslands and dense woodlands. Indeed, it is here is where you will find a captivating wildlife experience. Grant our game ranger, was extremely knowledgeable and passionate. He also was able to get us prime seats while a herd of elephants come down to drink water. It was goosebump material! We also sat quietly within a herd of Buffalo.  Quietly, just watching and listening to them as they grazed. It was simply sublime, as the sun was setting casting this golden light on these massive animals.  I was so happy to see so many youngsters.

What do the Tents look like?

Uniquely, accommodation at Saseka Tented Camp consists of ten well-appointed tented suites.  Its peaceful, you don’t see people, each Tent exquisitely designed to encapsulate the essence of safari living. The tents are spacious and feature a combination of modern comforts. With many old-world pieces, that take you back in time.  I adore the botanical theme, and think the ceilings make this camp so unique.  Also, including traditional design elements, providing you with an authentic experience. You tent has an en-suite bathroom, private deck with a private outdoor shower. And a cool plunge pool, where you can take a dip when the midday sun its hot. It is here you must connect with nature. For me, just hearing the birds, utter paradise!

During, you stay the culinary journey is a celebration of flavours and cultures.  From traditional South African dishes to international cuisine. The chef is talented and creates a diverse and delectable menu. You are surprised as meals are never the same. From the open-air dining area. Or the traditional boma, a traditional outdoor enclosure. Ultimately, making the perfect setting for fireside dining under the stars, complete with storytelling and camaraderie. For those like me who like to dine in, with my favourite pajamas, on the deck listening to the nocturnal animals.  Without question, your butler brings you a tray of divine food.

What made me happy at Saseka Tented Camp?

Finally, Thornybush Private Game Reserve places a strong emphasis on conservation. Everything is plastic free. You are given a metal water bottle.  So, that during your stay, you can fill it up, instead of creating more plastic waste with plastic bottles. Clearly, the reserve is seriously committed to protecting its natural resources and developing the local communities.  After all, it’s so important for us to ensure sustainable tourism practices, education, and social development initiatives. Which really makes me happy!
