A Day of Wine and Italian Bliss at Bacco in Paarl
Bacco Wine Estate is located in the heart of Paarl, a treasure that promises an Italian escape in the Cape Winelands.
Firstly, this picturesque estate is more than just a vineyard. It is a celebration of wine, food, and culture inspired by Italian traditions. Let’s dive into what makes Bacco a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts and food lovers.
It’s important to note, that at Bacco, time moves at a leisurely pace. Just like the changing of the seasons. It takes time to create a unique piece of art, just like a vine’s life cycle. Cooperation with nature, caring for our surroundings and enjoying what nature has to offer. In my opinion, the key to a happy life. Crafted with care and slowness, Bacco wines are meant to be welcoming to the senses and the mind.
History of the Wine Estate :
Nathan Jankelowitz’s love for crafting high-quality wines is the driving force behind Baccō, a family-driven venture. Nathan always wanted to provide the same kind of all-encompassing, immersive luxury experience to the wine-loving people of South Africa. A once-in-a-lifetime fantasy that is now a breathtaking reality. His daughter Carla is a patisserie chef who has completed her studies at Le Cordon Bleu in London.
Her hands are responsible for the operation of the Bacco tasting room and for serving her line of Cicchetti, which are tiny plates that are inspired by Italian cuisine. Her Father’s effervescent passion motivates her to develop an unparalleled holistic experience.
Location :
Bacco is conveniently located just a short drive from Paarl’s bustling town center. As you arrive, you’re greeted by a landscape of vineyards and mountain views. The estate’s Tuscan-inspired architecture and rustic interiors transport you straight to Italy. Inside the tasting room, you’ll find warm wooden furnishings, charming artwork, and an inviting fireplace for cooler days. Outside, a sunlit terrace overlooks the vineyards, making it an idyllic spot to relax.
The Wines :
Bacco Wine Estate offers a selection of exquisite wines crafted with care. Their Sangiovese Reserve is a standout, showcasing bold red fruit flavours, a hint of spice, and velvety tannins. For white wine lovers, the Chardonnay is a delight—crisp yet creamy, with notes of green apple and vanilla. The Rosé is a refreshing option, bursting with strawberry and floral aromas, perfect for warm afternoons. Don’t miss their signature Prosecco, a sparkling wine that captures the festive spirit of Italy. Each sip tells a story, reflecting the terroir and passion behind the winemaking.
The Food and Service :
We opted for the wine tasting, with the Cannelloni experience. With each wine, you paired with cannelloni, filled with the delicious mousse. It was a one-of-a-kind gastronomic adventure, that we thoroughly enjoyed. The delicate cannelloni was delicious. The wine is crisp and tasty.
His nickname was Bumpy! Big smiley fella, who is passionate about his craft. Service. We were served a cicchetti menu. Allowing us to taste from 6 different Italian dishes. Each plate is packaged with goodness and Italian cuisine.
You can count on the most recent harvest, vivid hues, and complex tastes. From Creamy burrata tartlet, roasted summer stone fruits, Hendricks gin, mint & basil syrup to Crayfish arancino. Roasted shellfish bisque, pickled red onion with micro coriander. The portions were nice sizes, so you can share making sure you get to taste each plate. Not to mention, you will never go hungry at Bacco Wine Estate!
Conclusion:
Finally, Bacco Wine Estate is a slice of Italy in Paarl. With its award-winning wines, Chef Carla’s delectable dishes, and the serene ambiance, it’s an experience to savour. Additionally, whether you’re a wine connoisseur or someone looking to indulge in a leisurely lunch.
Without question, Bacco is the perfect escape. So, gather your friends or family and head to Bacco for a day of unforgettable flavours and memories. Bottomline, if you are looking for a Italian feast, with exceptional wine, I highly recommend you make sure you visit this amazing experience. Go hungry!

Wow, lively! I’ll definitely put this on my list to try out! Food looks great! Is there a place to swim? And on hot summer days? Do you recommend inside or outside?
Hi Selma, You can either sit inside or outside, both areas are cool. You have umbrellas to sit underneath. There is no swimming pool. Thank you for reading
