Experience Glamping : A Fusion of Comfort and Nature

December 5, 2024
Pet friendly Glamping

Firstly, are you ready to experience Glamping in the Western Cape: A Fusion of Comfort and Nature. This is the best way to experience something different.  Secondly, its a way to make sure all your creature’s comforts are in tact.

Stargazing in at the Southern Yurts

Glamping, or “glamorous camping,” redefines outdoor adventures by combining the rustic charm of camping with the luxury of a five-star retreat. It’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in breathtaking landscapes, whether in rugged mountains or serene nature reserves, all while enjoying modern comforts like plush beds and private bathrooms. I have included, airstream trailers, yurts, and tented camps.

I mean come on, life is not all about the five-star life.  Sometimes you need to get down to the soil and enjoy being close to nature.

What to Expect from Glamping

Picture this: a spacious tent with a luxurious bed, soft linens, and ambient lighting. Forget sleeping bags on the ground—glamping provides a real mattress, cozy duvets, and even climate control in some locations. Many spots offer private bathrooms with hot showers, eco-friendly toiletries, and even outdoor bathtubs where you can soak under the stars. Dining is an event, with fully equipped kitchens or on-site chefs preparing gourmet meals.

Sleeping in nature has never been this comfortable. You can fall asleep to the rustling of leaves and awaken to birdsong, feeling both connected to the wild and pampered.

Here are a few of my favourite Glamping Spots in the Western & Eastern Cape

Teniqua Treetops, Knysna

Nestled in lush forests, this eco-friendly retreat offers treehouse-style accommodations with forest and ocean views. Activities include birdwatching, hiking, and lounging by the pool. Teniqua Treetops offers a captivating glamping experience in the stunning Indigenous forest near Knysna, situated in the heart of the picturesque Garden Route. Our treetop retreat provides a distinctive and memorable self-catering experience. Engage with the serene essence of nature, while stimulating your senses and revitalising your spirit. All their suites are situated amid the spectacular indigenous Knysna Forest. Without a doubt, something special!

West Coast Luxury Tents, Dwarskerbos

Close to beach beachfront. Delightful property. Found in Dwarskersbos, West Coast Luxury Tents provides accommodation with a private beach area. With a private entrance to the luxury tent for all guests that stay over. Important to note, that your luxury tent comes with bed linen and towels. Andhis is heaven on the beach!

West Coast Luxury Tents

Moonrise Dome, Tulbagh

The Moonrise Dome is a love letter to the beauty of the rugged Tulbagh landscape with the property seamlessly blending with its natural surroundings. Aside from the geodome which juts out from the hill it’s perched on, you’d be forgiven for thinking there was nothing there. Even more mesmerizing is the reason for its name, with guests having the opportunity to watch the moon slowly rise from behind the Witzenberg Mountains. Nestled amongst the trees, with the birds. You’ll spend your days enjoying the melodic songs of birds and the whispers of nature when the sun goes down. The Treehouse offers a quaint balcony for guests looking to admire the unadulterated beauty of the landscape or sip on some morning coffee while enjoying the peace.

Old Mac Daddy Grabouw

This spot combines vintage trailers with modern interiors for a unique glamping vibe.  Each trailer is themed.  Making each stay completely authentic and new.  Some of the trailers are decorated to the nines, others are just plain fun and quirkiness.  There is so much to do on the farm and plenty of activities for the family.  However, please note it’s the best spot for a naughty weekend. Each trailer has privacy and it can be very romantic.  You are spoilt for exceptional local wine tastings in the Elgin area and if you love cycling and hiking, this is the perfect place for you.

Grysbokkloof Luxury Tents, Montagu

In Montagu, you’ll find Grysbokkloof Private Nature Reserve, a premium glamping site with a terrace and views of the mountains.  The opulent tent features a hot tub and an outdoor fireplace. In your tent, you will have the following: A hob, refrigerator, and oven are available in the kitchen.  All while complimentary amenities and a hair dryer are provided in the common bathroom. An outdoor dining area is also on-site overlooking the private nature reserve.  Grysbokkloof Private Nature Reserve offers luxurious glamping just 6 kilometres from Montagu.  A very special getaway with the family!

Buffelsdrift Tented Camps, Klien Karoo

Buffelsdrift Lodge offers free-standing tents with views of the Klein Karoo’s Swartberg Mountains and a wildlife drinking hole. Here you can enjoy game drives, meerkat visits, and free-roaming cheetah safaris.  Each air-conditioned luxury tent has a minibar, en-suite bathroom, and outdoor shower. Tents with wooden decks are near the water. An outdoor pool faces the waterhole. Free public WiFi is available in this malaria-free game reserve.

One of the top a la carte restaurants in the Southern Cape serves award-winning wines and Karoo cuisine cooked from fresh, local products by the waterside. Alongside the restaurant is a shaded balcony with stunning views of the Swartberg mountains. Including a display of a waterhole that is frequented by hippos, elephants, and other wildlife.

Southern Yurts, Diepklowe Private Nature Reserve

The north-facing Forest View Yurt is set on a sloped hill with a view of the natural beauty of the nature preserve. It faces north, so you can enjoy the perfect sunrise and sunset from your private high deck. The wood-fired hot tub is only two steps from the door to your Yurt. It is here you can enjoy the views, peace, and quiet. You can also relax in your cargo hammock with a cup of coffee. With a private, unique self-catering kitchen next to the yurt.  Which has an indoor stove and a daybed. Also a bathroom right next to the kitchen where you can take a hot shower. Like Alice in Wonderland, there is nothing ordinary about this place to stay. The Forest View Yurt has everything you need for a unique and comfy stay.

Uniquely, there is a king-sized bed in the Yurt that can sleep two people. Additionally, it comes with bedding, towels, extra blankets, and a gas heater or fan (depending on the season).  Lastly, hot water bottles for cooler nights, binoculars, wildlife and tree books, and reading material.  Moreover, you are spoilt with a braai area outside with a cover.  Including a pizza oven that cooks on wood.

Why You Should Try Glamping

Lastly, it is without a doubt, glamping in the surrounding Cape is the ultimate way to reconnect with nature. While still enjoying life’s luxuries. Imagine stargazing in the mountains, dining al fresco in a vineyard, or waking to views of unspoiled wilderness. Whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation, glamping promises a five-star experience that lets you be wild in style.

Chilling at the Southern Yurts

It’s important to note, that I am not saying to book your whole holiday glamping, but certainly take a break and step into a little adventure.  And enjoy something different.  There are so many exceptional journeys to be taken.

Glamping is what rich people call getting in touch with nature. It’s not nature until you feel the mud between your toes, haven’t drank any water for hours, and don’t know where you parked the car!
I’m just kidding, at least not about the parked car thing! Thanks for sharing. These places look wonderful! and I would totally camp here!

It would be great if we all glamped and taught our kids the art of glamping! Saves the earth and our wallets!
