Top 5 Wine Farms in Cape Winelands.
Being a wine lover, explorer and African travel expert, I have been fortunate to experience many different wine farms in our Cape Wine Country. I have tried and tested each place.
I have compiled my Top 5 Wine Farms in the Cape Winelands.
From Paarl to Stellenbosch to Franschhoek, I have visited each winery and savoured every morsel of food, tasted their wines lovingly, and slept in their beds. Making sure that no stone is unturned for our guests who come and visit our beautiful country. Simply to make sure we know what we are talking about. Here are our Top 5 wine farms in the Cape Winelands.Β Β
1. Babylonstoren
Share this experience with your family, your lover, or a bunch of your friends. This magnificent wine farm is a 200-hectare farm in the Drakenstien Valley, found halfway between Franschhoek and Paarl. Here you will have all your sensory boxes ticketed! They have a curated and very much-loved garden that has vegetables, fruit, and incredible flowers.
You need some time to enjoy this farm. It has a farm-to-table restaurant, a scented room, a butcher, a deli, and a decor shop. Most of all sensational wines. This beautiful experience needs a few hours. I would be sure to spend a day at Babylonstoren, you will need this as you will find interesting farm animals, wild birds, and sublime accommodation.Β
2. Boschendal
The facts are, that Boschendal is a working farm with passionate people who care about the environment, animals, and people. Promote living with nature, offering outstanding experiences, and serving farm-to-fork food and award-winning wines. This wine farm gets a big thumbs up from me! Beyond the beauty of this farm lies its true adventure. Besides adventure, horse riding, mountain biking, and a Tree House daycare for kids.
Lastly, you can lay your head to rest in many options. Such as the cottages with fireplaces, to the farmhouse perfect for family and friends. Certainly not forgetting the mountain villa found just underneath the majestic Simonsberg Mountain range. Without a doubt lavishly decorated and oozes luxurious fit for a king and queen! To summarise, Boschendal has it all and more!
3. Waterford Wine Estate
Waterford Estate is situated in the picturesque Blaauwklippen Valley, in the world-renowned Stellenbosch region. There is nothing pretentious or ostentatious about the estate, rather the visual impact is one of a seamless whole, which compliments rather than detracts from the surrounding natural beauty.
My favourite experience is the Wine Drive Safari. It is a 3-hour trip around the wine farm, stopping at the best spots. Simultaneously wine tasting will be accompanied by various light snacks, which are deliciously suited to pair with the individual wines. Lastly, the experience will culminate with the Wine and Chocolate Tasting, back at the winery. Click here to see my adventure.
4. Kleinood Wine Farm
Kleinood is a small farm with just twelve hectares of arable land. Of these, ten hectares are devoted to vines, with the remaining two under olive trees. The rest of the farm is left wild or planted with fynbos, roses, and vegetables.
Everything on and about Kleinood is rooted in the history of our family as well as in the Cape and the Boland because we believe that it is important to belong, to have a heritage, and to take care of the things that came before us and that put us here. Naming something gives it an identity of its own in terms of its origin and the world in which it has to find its way.
5. Creation Winery
Lastly, Creation Wines. Situated a little further than our Cape Winelands, in the Walker Bay area is this absolute gem. It’s a way of life, its owners live on the property and get their hands dirty whether it is in the vineyard or the kitchen. Making this place bountiful of love, nature, and a paradise. Wrapped around the scenic Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, in the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom is this award-winning restaurant and winery.
As I have said our Cape Winelands is an overnight experience always allow a few nights in this beautiful region, there is much to do, see, taste and experience. And photograph.
