The Guesthouse

Rumi writes a beautiful Poem called The Guesthouse, it really helps me get through life, its a great reminder of how to deal with life when things are not going well.

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

The Guesthouse written by Jalaluddin Rumi

I love the way he says, be grateful for whoever comes, whether its good or bad, as this is sent to us as a guide, to either clear out space. Or to show us what is important and to hold on too. I have had many friends in my life, some have been reason, seasons and lifetimes.

I am truly blessed that I can say, I have a good handful, of special, kind, caring, uncomplicated friends for a lifetime. That don’t use me. But love me unconditionally.
